Frequently Asked Questions

Is LettMail really free?

Yes. The service is supported by lightweight ads on the homepage and inside the blog. There is no paid tier and no premium upsell.

Do I have to register or create an account?

No. The inbox is created the moment you open the page. There is no email, no password, and no profile attached to it.

How long does the inbox last?

Each session lasts ten minutes by default. You can press the “+10 min” extend button to add more time as long as the timer has not yet reached zero.

Can I get the same address back later?

No. Once an inbox expires, it is recycled and any future messages sent to it are rejected. Use the extend button if you expect a follow-up email.

Can I send email from a LettMail address?

No. LettMail is receive-only. This is what keeps the service abuse-resistant and free for everyone.

Will the website where I sign up know that this is a temporary address?

Some websites maintain lists of disposable email domains and may block them. If a sign-up fails, the “Change” button will give you a new address on a different domain.

Are my messages private?

Disposable inboxes are randomly generated with enough entropy that guessing one is effectively impossible during its short life. We do not log message contents and the inbox is deleted when the timer ends.

Can I use LettMail for important services like banking or government?

No. Never use a disposable email for accounts you need long-term access to. Use your real address for banking, healthcare, government services, work accounts, and anything you would be locked out of without password recovery.

Is it legal to use a temporary email?

Yes. Disposable email is used every day by privacy-aware users, researchers, and developers. Using LettMail to commit fraud or break another platform’s rules, however, is a violation of our Terms of Service.

How do I report abuse?

Use our Contact page with “Abuse” in the subject line and we will investigate.
